Security specialists install free CCTV and alarm systems for Rhubarb Farm after recent burglaries

Doncaster based company R&S Security Specialists Ltd has installed high tech surveillance equipment free of charge for horticultural social enterprise Rhubarb Farm to improve their security after two recent burglaries.

R&S Security promptly conducted a full site survey which concluded that a top of the range CCTV system with five security cameras should be promptly installed. The Farm management team now has a 22’’ CCTV monitor installed in the office and the team can view the cameras in real time at any point during the day or night with the system alerting them of any movement on site.

In conjunction with the CCTV system, R&S have installed the very best wireless alarm system on the market, all with smart phone connectivity so they are able to control the alarm system remotely. The installation took place on Thursday 18th April 2019, just in time for the Easter break.

Rhubarb Farm uses a therapeutic organic horticulture model for developing skills, confidence and employability, and for improving health and well-being. Volunteers come from a range of backgrounds such as the unemployed, recovering drug and alcohol misusers, ex-offenders, people with learning disabilities or ill health and even older isolated people and people with dementia.

Richard Sanders, Managing Director at R&S Security, said “It was a pleasure and a privilege to offer our service for this worthwhile organisation. With our supply partner Smith Bros and Mast Digital we were able to provide the latest state of the art security system to protect the Farm. We are also going to offer the Farm ongoing yearly maintenance for free to help them maintain the site security over the next 3 years. In addition we also fitted the very latest Texecom Ricochet security system with Smart phone integration – thank you again to Smith Bros & Texecom for their kind contribution. We also would like to thank the Rhubarb Farm management team and volunteers for their extremely worthwhile help and support to the wider community that need the help they can provide – they are making a huge difference to people’s lives and something R & S Security are proud to be involved with.”

Jennie Street, Managing Director of Rhubarb Farm said “R&S Security Specialist’s incredible generosity has been an amazing boost for the Farm.  It will give us peace of mind about our site.  We always struggle financially to keep going, so support like this is absolutely invaluable – we could never have afforded this ourselves, but have longed for a security system for a long time.  A massive Thank You R&S Security for your amazing gift”.

How did this project come about?

During the most recent burglary, along with power tools and gardening equipment, a Berlingo vehicle was stolen from the site, which was used for collecting volunteers and bringing them to the farm. Rhubarb Farm also had access to a minibus borrowed from another company, but it was not always available which made things difficult.

With a stroke of luck, only a few days after the theft, Rhubarb Farm were surprised with a new 17-seater minibus at the Building Communities Awards which is an event hosted by not-for-profit procurement consortium EEM Ltd to celebrate achievements in the housing and construction industry.

Pete Smith, Chief Executive of EEM said “Being able to provide Rhubarb Farm with a much-needed minibus to allow them to collect more volunteers and arrange day trips was fantastic. The fact that Smith Bros and R&S wanted to support the enterprise even further with the provision of a new security system is a testament to the impact that Rhubarb Farm makes on everyone who visits. I would like to thank everyone involved in this project.”

Electrical distributor Smith Bros. (Caer Conan) Wholesale Ltd donated towards the bus and after meeting the staff and volunteers at the official handover event, their kind-hearted Sales Manager Pete Finch immediately asked R&S if they were able to help with security on site.

Pete said “When we saw the fantastic work the staff at Rhubarb Farm were achieving and the success they were having helping the community – Smith Bros wanted to help and support the charity as much as possible. With our supply partners and amazing customers we knew between us we could make a real difference to the charity. When I called R & S Security and told them about the work at the Farm and what they needed – without a moment’s hesitation they agreed to help – thank you to Richard, Scott and Amanda and their staff  for supporting – what a great company they are. We have also contacted FireAngel – who very kindly are also going to offer Rhubarb Farm their companies support – thank you to Lizzie at FireAngel. Smith Bros have been privileged to have helped Rhubarb Farm and we will always be in the background to support the charity in the future.”
